Tale Of The Grape Vintner's Story

Founded in 1996, Michael Quinn created a boutique winery (CA-BW #6421) located on the west side of the town Napa that specialized in select small lots of mostly Napa/Sonoma Zinfandels and Napa Cabernet, from fruit grown with sustainable and eco-friendly techniques. The winery’s award-winning wines can be found in some of the top restaurants and wine shops in the United States.

The production lots for Michael-Scott Winery are quite small (typically 400-600 cases of each) compared to what most commercial brands produce. While the Brown’s Valley property that is located just to the west of the town of Napa is bonded, they produce their wines at Artesa Winery, in the Carneros Region, only a few miles from the Brown’s Valley property.

Michael Quinn, Sr., a Napa native, began his career in Viticulture, at a young age in 1975 with the Mondavi family at Charles Krug Winery. Five years later he was Vineyard Manager of the historic Stanly Ranch in the early 80’s growing Pinot Noir for Beaulieu Vineyards and Domaine Chandon. From there Michael moved into the sales and marketing side of the business with a fine wine distributor in Northern California. After that he consulted and handled national sales for a number of smaller Northern California wineries.

In 1996, Michael-Scott became a reality. Michael Quinn, the sole owner, is mostly involved in the day to day operations with an emphasis on production, national sales, and marketing. Being a small winery, Michael is required to wear a number of different hats each day to produce the finest wines from carefully selected fruit sources.

Four Sisters Ranch Vineyards and Winery, located in the northern Paso Robles AVA, have been family-owned and operated for over twenty-six years.

A family affair, the winery is owned and operated by Serena Friedman, M.D. and Michael Drucker, M.D., and is named after their four daughters – the Four Sisters – who contribute uniquely to the winery’s success.

Their 450-acre vineyard produces bulk and private-label wines for many renowned wineries in the Napa Valley and internationally. From its inception, Serena and Michael have been hands-on vintners who are involved in every stage of the wine-making process.

Four Sisters strongly believes in taking care of their surrounding environment through the winemaking process, and they continue to learn and refine their techniques to accomplish this.

Their commitment to sustainability has seen the following practices adopted throughout their vineyard:

  • Drip irrigation for our grapevines, which controls and preserves our water
  • Erosion control using natural barriers
    Reduced use of pesticides
  • Strategically placed owl boxes for safe and natural pest control throughout the vineyards
  • Use of Weed Seeker and Rodinator equipment to control weeds and rodents without use of toxic chemicals
